The Coates in Yorkshire
The link below will take you to all the photographs that we took during two trips to England, in 2001 with Pat and in 2009 with Patricia. Rather than going into great detail with the captions shown below each photograph I will give you a brief introduction to the photographs here and how they are related to the Coates. You will notice that the photographs are in alphabetical order, no reason for this, really, just easier to put this all together. In the case of the documnents and headstones you will need to zoom in to see them clearly.
- The first set is for Blaithwaite. This is the last house/farm that Francis and his family lived in prior to leaving for Canada in 1826 or27.
- The second set is for Bolton by Bowland
- The third set is for Clapham where several of Francis and Ann's children were baptised
- The fourth set is for Giggleswick, this is where Francis and Ann were married and some children were baptized
- The fifth set is for Gisburn where Richard and Jane were married
- The sixth set shows the hotel we stayed at with is adjacent to the church in Giggleswick
- The seventh set is for Higher Pythorns
- The eighth set is for Long Preston
- The ninth set is for Lumb which is the house owned by Ann's parents and which Francis and Ann first lived in when they were married
- The tenth set is for Moss, this is listed as the place where Richard and Jane Coates were living at the time of Francis' birth
- The eleventh set is for Mount Sion
- The twelfth set shows the ribble river which separates Giggleswick from Settle
- The next two show the Ripley castle and one owner......they were associated with the Coates through land rentals
- The final set is for Tosside
